I have earlier criticized our competitors for having a user interface which is too slow. Basically Web 1.0 in other words. NetSuite will now support Ajax in their latest release (10.6). Great to see this improvement in web-applications.
There was however one small thing I noticed in the press release (emphasize is mine):
NetSuite is the leader in dashboard-centric business management, and NetSuite 10.6 takes this capability to the next level by being the first major business application with broad support of AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML).
First? I think not. 24SevenOffice have been using Ajax for about 1,5 years. Before that we used similar techniques using hidden iframes. I discovered the XMLHTTPRequest object when planning the report generator in 24SevenOffice. I needed to be able to get all available tables and fields for reporting but didn’t want to include everything in the page when loading..it would be too much. The XMLHTTPRequest object was a savior in this task and I have used it extensively since.
